State Law Allows Greater Freedom
for Electronic Signs
Maine Revised Statutes Title 23 §1914 subsection 11-A now allows and clarifies the acceptable use of changeable and electronic display signage.
Since local jurisdictions may now reduce the baseline message change frequency to less than 20 minutes, businesses, cities and towns can realize increased safety and revenue.
Many local jurisdictions have already adopted their own electronic sign allowances in lieu of the figures mandated on the State level.
NOTE: Jurisdictions must notify the state of their local changeable message ordinance amendments. Jurisdictions failing to notify the state must operate under the state law default of 20 min. between messages.
