Signs from the Past—
Reliable Oil & Heating
Lewiston, Maine

Around 1966, Neokraft Signs produced one of Maine's most prominent signs of the era. This was by far the most advanced electric sign in existence in Central Maine at the time (and perhaps all of Maine).

Click to see larger image, with daytime photoIncorporating 1288 11-watt incandescant bulbs (with a combined draw of 119 amps) and classic red neon tubing, the Reliable Oil sign was a significant part of Lewiston's business identity.

The sign was removed around 1984 when the Patry Brothers sold the company to Dead River Oil Company.

Design Protection
for Signs & Plans
Under the US Copyright Act of 1976, copyright protection is given to “pictorial, graphic, and sculptural works”, including “two-dimensional and three-dimensional works of fine, graphic, and applied art, ...technical drawings, diagrams, and models.”

Since plans and specifications for signs fall within this realm, it is important to know how this may affect business decisions.

Neokraft Featured Sign Projects!

Southern Maine Medical Center

Major renovations in 2008 to Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, Maine required all new sign program to deliver SMMC's new 'brand' and appearance..

Working with the design team at Dietz Associates, Neokraft Signs came through with custom-built Electronic Message Displays, several large monument signs, directional signs, wayfining signs, wall letters and many interior signs.

Together, these individual signs brought continuity and clarity to the facilities at Southern Maine Medical Center.

Brewer
Public Safety

The new building for Brewer Public Safety in Brewer, Maine demanded architectural compatability mixed with clarity and effectiveness.

In choosing to utilize the LuminOre™ process Brewer Public Safety relied on Neokraft's expertise and skill to reproduce their city seal in a 5 foot diameter copper medallion with a polished copper and weathered patina finish. Pieces of this nature cast from solid copper might cost more than $10,000 and weigh up to a ton. Neokraft delivered (2) 65 lb. pieces at a fraction of both cost and weight.

Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care

In late 2006, Neokraft Signs was given the challenging task of designing and installing the primary ID signage for the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care, a facility of Maine General Health, in Augusta, Maine.

Major signage provided by Neokraft Includes the large freestanding entrance ID sign (above) and primary building identification letters. Capturing the architectural stylings of the facility while comfortably intergrating with the surrounding landscape was the primary goal in designing the signage.
